Unstoppable Power for Our Home
Ben Johnson – April 19, 2026
Romans 8:11 (NLT) – The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
Unstoppable power can RESTORE a marriage,
HEAL a relationship, and TRANSFORM a home.
Acts 16:22-34 (NLT) – A mob quickly formed against Paul and Silas, and the city officials ordered them stripped and beaten with wooden rods. They were severely beaten, and then they were thrown into prison. The jailer was ordered to make sure they didn’t escape. So, the jailer put them into the inner dungeon and clamped their feet in the stocks.
Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off! The jailer woke up to see the prison doors wide open. He assumed the prisoners had escaped, so he drew his sword to kill himself. But Paul shouted to him, “Stop! Don’t kill yourself! We are all here!”
The jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.” And they shared the word of the Lord with him and with all who lived in his household. Even at that hour of the night, the jailer cared for them and washed their wounds. Then he and everyone in his household were immediately baptized. He brought them into his house and set a meal before them, and he and his entire household rejoiced because they all believed in God.
Transforming Our Homes
1. STAND on the WORD.
Vs. 32a – They shared the word of the Lord with him and with all who lived in his household.
Key Insight: What fills our homes, SHAPES those in them. Lead with the WORD.
2. Replace CRUELTY with CARE.
Vs. 32b – …the jailer cared for them and washed their wounds.
Key Insight: Evidence of REAL transformation is reversal of BEHAVIOR.
3. Take a faith that’s PERSONAL and make it PUBLIC.
Vs. 33b – everyone in his household were immediately baptized.
Key Insight:HIDDEN faith doesn’t change homes, DEMONSTRATED faith does.
4. Exchange FEAR with JOY.
Vs. 34b – …his entire household rejoiced because they all believed in God.
Key Insight: God is at WORK in our families and homes; watch for it and CELEBRATE the progress.
Our homes are not BEYOND the reach of God’s power. They are theTARGETof it.
Life Group Discussion & Questions
BREAKING THE ICE: What’s something small (a habit, phrase, or routine) that has shaped the atmosphere of your home more than you expected?
DIGGING IN: Read Acts 16:22-34.
1. What is currently filling your home the most (voices, media, stress, silence, scripture)?
2. Where in your home have you seen tension, harshness, or distance creep in? What would it look like this week to intentionally replace that with care in a tangible way?
3. In what ways is your faith currently private or contained? What’s one simple, visible step you could take to make your faith more demonstrated in your home?
4. What is one area of your home or family that you tend to feel fear or discouragement about? Where can you begin to look for evidence that God is already at work and celebrate it?
BRINGING IT HOME: What would it look like for you to truly believe that the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead is alive and active in your home right now? Not someday, not in theory, but in the middle of your real relationships and real challenges. Where have you quietly accepted something as “that’s just how it is” instead of believing God can change it? What if this week, you chose to live with bold faith instead of quiet resignation? What step would reflect that kind of faith?
