Your Sacred Advantage At Work

Pastor Doug Heisel – May 3, 2026

Romans 8:11 – The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, He will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

Colossians 3:23-24 – Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Scripture:  Nehemiah chapter 4 and 6

Work-related problems we may all face:

  1. BULLYING (Neh. 4:1-3, 7-8)

  2. DISCOURAGEMENT (Neh. 4:10-12)

  3. COMPROMISE (Neh 6:1-14)

Behind all these challenges was this lie…

It is FOOLISH to TRUST God at work.

Application:

I will PRAY that God gives me the WISDOM to know what’s right, and the POWER to do what’s right, even when it’s hard.

Life Group Discussion & Questions

BREAKING THE ICE: What’s one thing you enjoy about your work (or daily responsibilities), and one thing that tests your patience?

DIGGING IN: In Sunday’s message, Doug shared three common work challenges:

  • ridicule & intimidation

  • discouragement

  • temptation & compromise

  1. Which one do you face most right now, and how is it showing up in your life?

  2. Nehemiah consistently brought his problems to God first. What is your typical first response when facing pressure; pray, react, avoid, or power through?

  3. What would it look like to shift that?

  4. The core lie identified was, “It is foolish to trust God at work.” Where have you been tempted to believe that? What truth from God pushes back on that lie?

BRINGING IT HOME: God hasn’t left you alone in your work. He’s given you wisdom, power, and perspective. This week, make it personal: Pray daily:

“God, give me the wisdom to know what’s right and the courage to do what’s right, even when it’s hard.”

Then watch. Where does He meet you differently?
